The Divine Comedy will return to the stage this October with a major UK tour to celebrate the release of their 13th studio album Rainy Sunday Afternoon, out 19th September. Yorkshire fans will be treated to two live shows, with performances in Sheffield on Thursday 16th October and York on Tuesday 21st October.
Led by Neil Hannon, The Divine Comedy last appeared on the charts with the top 5 compilation Charmed Life and earned acclaim for their triumphant UK tour in 2022. In the time since, Hannon has also written the original songs for the global blockbuster Wonka – officially the UK’s most popular film of 2024.
Rainy Sunday Afternoon was recorded at Abbey Road Studios and, true to Hannon’s style, weaves together sadness, humour, reflection and grandeur. The newly released track Achilles offers an early glimpse into a record Hannon describes as an outlet for recent feelings on “mortality, memories, relationships, political and social upheaval.”
Speaking about the album, Hannon said: “Everyone should get to make an orchestral pop album once in a while. It should be available on the NHS.”
