Welsh art-rock icons Super Furry Animals will headline York Museum Gardens on Saturday 11 July 2026, completing this summer’s Live at York Museum Gardens concert series. The show marks a rare return to the stage for the band, who will perform together live for the first time in ten years.
Celebrating more than 30 years together, Super Furry Animals will draw from their richly inventive nine-album catalogue for a set packed with colour, character and cult favourites. Returning with a line-up unchanged since their early days — Huw Bunford, Cian Ciarán, Daf Ieuan, Guto Pryce and Gruff Rhys — the band will pick up where they left off, bringing their unmistakable blend of psychedelic pop, art-rock and leftfield experimentation to one of York’s most atmospheric outdoor venues.
Formed in the mid-1990s and signed to Creation Records, Super Furry Animals quickly earned a reputation for doing things their own way. Their debut album Fuzzy Logic broke the familiar guitar-band mould with its playful, psychedelic approach, while follow-up Radiator secured a UK Top Ten placing and propelled the band into the upper reaches of alternative British music. Albums such as Guerilla, Rings Around the World and Love Kraft further cemented their status as one of the most inventive and consistently surprising bands of their generation.
The band recently marked the 20th anniversary of Love Kraft with a special reissue, but until now there had been no plans to reunite on stage. The York headline show offers fans a rare opportunity to hear songs from across their catalogue performed live again, in a setting that feels tailor-made for their adventurous spirit.
Joining Super Furry Animals in York will be a carefully curated line-up of special guests. Baxter Dury brings his unmistakable drawl and sharp lyrical wit, while Los Campesinos! add their emotionally charged indie-pop to the bill. Fast-rising Nottingham alt-country group Divorce also appear, alongside the woozy, ’60s-inspired psychedelia of Welsh Music Prize nominees Pys Melyn.
Now in its third season, Live at York Museum Gardens has quickly established itself as one of the region’s most distinctive summer concert series. Previous years have welcomed artists including Elbow, Nile Rodgers & CHIC, Shed Seven and Richard Hawley, alongside comedy events as part of the York Comedy Festival. For 2026, Super Furry Animals join previously announced headliners Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark and Self Esteem across a run of standout July dates.
Set within the ruins of St Mary’s Abbey, York Museum Gardens provide a unique backdrop for live music in the heart of the city. Founded in the 1830s and spanning more than ten acres, the gardens offer an intimate open-air setting that has quickly become a highlight of Yorkshire’s summer gig calendar.
