Blancmange will perform at Leeds’ Brudenell Social Club on Friday, 24th May, as part of their first-ever ‘Best Of’ Tour. Celebrating 45 years since their formation in 1979, the tour will showcase the band’s longevity and adaptability in the realm of electronic music.
Blancmange’s blend of synthesisers and surrealism, a formula that has yielded groundbreaking singles like ‘Feel Me,’ ‘Living on the Ceiling,’ ‘Blind Vision,’ and ‘Don’t Tell Me’ was honed for last year’s acclaimed album, Private View which demonstrated the band’s continual development within their electronic framework.
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Blancmange first made waves in the post-punk scene, experimenting with tape loops and sounds produced from kitchen utensils. They later evolved to become one of the definitive electronic pop acts in the British music landscape. After a hiatus, the band reformed in 2011 under the stewardship of Neil Arthur, who has since guided the band in releasing an impressive 10 albums in the past decade. The combination of their electronic explorations and pop melodies demonstrates a rare duality, marking them as a standout in their genre.
Though known globally, the impact of Blancmange has also been acknowledged by music artists and critics alike. American musician John Grant has expressed a four-decade-long admiration for the band. Meanwhile, Chicago DJ Honey Dijon noted the influence of British synth-pop, including Blancmange, on the city’s house music scene. Artist Moby has described them as “probably the most under-rated electronic act of all time.”
Tickets are on sale from 29th September.
