Live at York Museum Gardens have announced that beloved Sheffield singer-songwriter Richard Hawley will close this summer’s series on 5th July with a special evening celebrating 20 years of his critically acclaimed album Coles Corner. He will perform the album in full alongside a selection of favourites from across his incredible career.
Since forming his first band in school, Richard Hawley has quietly become one of the country’s most revered musical creatives, releasing nine studio albums under his own name and contributing to projects such as Britpop favourites Longpigs and touring with Pulp alongside longtime friend Jarvis Cocker. His collaborations span a wide range of artists, from Lisa Marie Presley to Arctic Monkeys.
His third album, Coles Corner, was released in 2005 and took inspiration from the legendary Sheffield landmark of the same name, a popular meeting place for first dates. It was met with widespread acclaim and was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize for Best Album the following year. Showcasing his signature blend of rockabilly, bluegrass, classic soul, and vintage chamber pop, the album remains a cornerstone of his career.
Returning for its second run this July following a sold-out debut series last year, Live at York Museum Gardens presents a weekend of unique performances within the historic city landmark. Richard Hawley joins an impressive lineup of fellow headliners, including British art-rock royalty Elbow, disco-funk pioneer Nile Rodgers & CHIC, and the debut York Comedy Festival featuring Katherine Ryan, Dara Ó Briain, and more.
The inaugural 2024 event saw 12,000 music fans enjoy performances from the likes of Shed Seven, Jack Savoretti, and Peter Doherty, significantly contributing to the city’s hospitality sector.
From bringing musical legends like Richard Hawley to York to providing a platform for rising regional talent, the event’s promoters, Leeds-based Futuresound Group and York Museums Trust, are looking forward to another summer of creative collaboration to deliver amazing outdoor concerts.
